My boyfriend stares at me in disbelief sometimes. He says it’s only because what has come out of my mouth is so unbelievably outrageous that he doesn’t know how to react. I just stare at him dumbfounded. “It’s not that outrageous.” I say quietly.

He’s right, of course.

What comes out of my mouth when it comes to movies is met with the same reaction from everybody, whether it’s someone I already know or someone I’ve just met.

I can’t help it. I just don’t like movies all that much. If I don’t like a certain actor/ress I won’t watch their movies. If the plot sounds dumb, I won’t watch it. If I’ve decided for some reason or another that it’s going to be shit, I just don’t watch it.

This pickiness has resulted in me not seeing alot of movies that, for some reason or another, people rave and rave about. And then when I do watch them, they’re incredibly disappointing.

Take Forrest Gump for example.

I saw this movie for the first time two years ago. Yes two years ago. 16 years after it was first released. My boyfriend made me watch it. I didn’t enjoy it. I thought it was kinda dumb. True, it’s not really my thing but the constant raving on and on and on and on about it made me not like it even more. I kept expecting it to get better, and it never did.

My belief with movies is that you have to see them basically immediately otherwise the impact of it is lost because everyone is talking/tweeting/blogging/social media-ing all about it. Raving on and on about something usually makes it less good to those who haven’t seen it yet.

I won’t lie. There are so many movies that I haven’t seen. People don’t believe me when I say that but it’s true. Then they’re shocked when they realise the extent of it.

Here’s what I mean:

Here is a list of the top 200 movies from Film Crave and those with the Bold are the movies I have personally seen, from start to finish, in one go. The ones in Srikethrough are movies that I’ve either seen but not in one go, or started but didn’t finish for whatever reason.

So out of 200 movies, I have seen, from start to finish, 38 movies. That’s 19%!

So I’m pretty terrible with movies. But only with movies I haven’t seen before. I’ve seen Eurotrip and Mean Girls so often that the dvds no longer work and I’ll have to go out and buy new ones. I love watching movies that I’ve already seen because I don’t have to concentrate nearly as hard. Besides my attention span is actually quite short. Give me a tv series over a movie anyday!

Are you a movie fanatic or did you get a lower score than I did?

I love the escape of movies but I don’t prioritise it enough. I think it’s completely up to a person what they prefer – after all I am not a big fan of footy or sushi but I don’t think anyone should make you feel like this isn’t normal. 19% is just fine X

HI Miss V, I seen this on MM and thought I’d come over and check it out.

It looked like fun and I was interested to see how many I’d seen too, so I went through the list the same as you (obviously I have nothing better to do today haha)

I’ve seen 48 out of the 200. and I’ve part seen 11 others. The 11 is mostly because I fall asleep almost ever time I watch a movie (very annoying, but I just can’t help it), so I thought it would be a lot more. The 48 I have seen doesn’t include most of the classics either, no wizard of oz (I’ve seen parts on tv but not enough to say i’ve seen it and know what its about) no gone with the wind etc.

I’m a little the same with the falling asleep. I try really hard but it’s almost like I’ve already made up my mind to not enjoy it and therefore my body just follows suit!

I do prefer tv shows though. The shorter duration is much better for my attention span!

My falling asleep isn’t even from getting bored or being un-interested in the movie, most of the time I really want to see it, which makes it even more annoying that I can’t stay awake. I think I just get too relaxed and simply can’t keep my eyes open. My boyfriend thinks theres something wrong with me and I should see a Dr haha!
